Special Events

Photo Show

Children and adults of all ages are invited to participate in a Photo Show at the Mason County District Library in Scottville. The opening party for the show will take place Wednesday, September 27th, 6pm at the Scottville branch. The show will include hors d'oeuvre and photos will be hanging up throughout the children's, adult, and young adult sections of the library. Children below the age of 8 must be accompanied by an adult. The Show itself will run from Wednesday, September 27th-Wednesday, November 29th. Up to five black and white digital or digitized photographs may be submitted until Sunday, September 17th at 11:59pm to photosubmissions@mcdlibrary.org. What do you love about Mason County? The library wants you to capture an image (or several!) of things you love about the county, then write a few words about it, be in as a poem, a couple of short sentences, or a list of feelings and sensations. More information on photo submission can be found in the submission form, available at both libraries and in the "Event Permission & Registration" (under the "Information" heading) section at masoncounty.lib.mi.us.

Calendar Art Contest

Children of all ages are invited to create a seasonal drawing to decorate a calendar page. Winning designs will be printed and sold at the Mason County District Libraries in Ludington and Scottville. Winners will receive one of the calendars they helped to create. Artists must use the back of the entry form. Entry forms are available at the Mason County District Libraries in Ludington and Scottville and on the Library’s website MCDLibrary.org. Contest deadline is September 29th.

About the Mason County District Libraries

Four years of fundraising and seven months of construction has produced the beautiful new children's wing to the Mason County Library in Ludington. The Keith Wilson Children's Center was formally dedicated on May 18, 2012. The new wing adds over 5,300 square feet to the library, which now offers a Story Time and Sailboat Play Area, West Shore Bank Multi-Purpose Room and Craig R. Rasmussen Outdoor Activity Area which is enclosed by a fence.

Children simply love the Mason County District libraries in Ludington and Scottville. They're kid-friendly, and have activities all year for children of all ages. The mission of the library is children's literacy...encouraging children to read by making it fun and enjoyable. Their theme is "Just Imagine," allowing kids to engage their minds and curiosity of the world around them.

The Mason County District Library is so much more than books...it's a fun place for kids to learn and explore, while increasing children's literacy.
