Featured Family Events in January & February

January-February 2019

The lakeshore communities of West Michigan do a fantastic job of hosting events and activities that include the whole family. There's so much happening that is geared specifically toward kids and families as a whole, and that's part of what makes being here so amazing!

Every season in West Michigan has it's unique, fun things to do for kids of all ages- from babies up to the "young at heart". Indoors or outdoors, no matter the time of year, there's always something great going on along the lakeshore for families to experience together!

In addition to the following list, check out the events happening throughout the month at Sandcastles Children's Museum and the Ludington and Scottville branches of the Mason County District Libraries!

Here's a list of family friendly events happening along the lakeshore in January and February:


Every Wednesday in January, 9:30-11am

Joyful Noise Playgroup at Ludington Area Catholic School- 700 E. Bryant Rd. Free and open to all families with children age newborn up to preschool. For more information, call (231) 843-3188.

Saturday, January 26th, 2-3:30pm AND 6-7:30pm

Guided snowshoe walks at the Ludington State Park- M-116 in Ludington.



Every Wednesday in February, 9:30-11am

Friday, February 1st-Saturday, February 2nd

Hart Winterfest in downtown Hart. Event includes a broomball tournament, soup cookoff, cross country skiing, and a run/walk on the State Street Mile. Visit hartmainstreet.org for more information.

Friday, February 1st, 5:30-7:30pm

Father-Daughter Dance at the Graystone Event Center- 4079 W. US 10 in Ludington. Dinner, dancing, photos, and more are included. Tickets are $25/couple ($10 for additional girls) and available at the West Shore Pregnancy Care Center- 603 E. Tinkham Ave. in Ludington or by visiting ministrysync.com.

Saturday, February 2nd

11:30am - Stomp Out Cancer Snowshoe Stampede at the Manistee VFW- 1211 28th St. in Manistee. Event includes a Snowshoe Walk, celebrity bartenders, live music, silent auction, bake sale, raffles, chili/soup cook-off, indoor corn hole tournament, and outdoor kids activities. Proceeds assist cancer patients in Mason and Manistee Counties. Visit hartmainstreet.org for more information.

12-3pm - Ludington Soup-er Bowl throughout downtown. Visit 20+ participating businesses to taste various soups. Maps with vote slips will be available at each participating location. Tasters vote for their favorite soup by dropping off a ballot and a canned good item for the local food pantry in the box located near the clock tower in the James Street Plaza. Each slip will be entered to win prizes. Those attending are encouraged to bring their own mug and spoon to help keep event waste to a minimum.

1-4pm - Chili Cook-Off at the American Legion Post 76- 318 N. James St. in Ludington. $5 entry fee, $5 sampling fee. Judging from 1-3pm.

2-3:30pm - Guided snowshoe walks at the Ludington State Park- M-116 in Ludington.

Booklover's Sale at the Manistee Library- 95 Maple St. in Manistee.

Saturday, February 9th

All Day - Pentwater Winterfest in downtown Pentwater. Event includes Snowman Scram 5K/1 Mile Fun Run, cross-country skiing, barrel racing on ice, sledding on the Village Green, wine tasting, gallery stroll, and more.

11am-3pm - Sweet Pet Portraits at 4 Paws Pet Salon & Doggy Day Care- 5950 US 10 in Ludington to benefit the Second Chance Humane Society. Photographs by Real Life Photography by Ellen. Dogs must be leashed and cats/other small animals must be in secure carriers.

2-3:30pm & 6-7:30pm - Guided snowshoe walks at the Ludington State Park- M-116 in Ludington.

Sunday, February 10th, 5-7:30pm

Foster Care and Adoption Info Night at Path of Life Ministries- 5738 W. US 10 in Ludington. Those interested are invited to learn about foster care and adoption in Mason County. Local agencies will present information/statistics and current and former foster parents will be available to answer questions. Childcare will be provided.

Historic White Pine Village

Sunday, February 24th, 1pm

Potluck & Singalong at the Brown Township Hall- 8233 Coates Highway in Brethren. A midwinter gathering of friends sponsored by the Spirit of the Woods Music Association. Attendees should bring a dish to pass and an instrument.

Thursday, February 28th, 5-7pm

Soup Supper to benefit HELP Ministries at the United Methodist Church- 5810 Bryant Rd. in Ludington. Cost is by donation and includes soup, bread and dessert. A silent auction will also be held.
